Sillimanite is an alumino-silicate mineral with the chemical formula Al2SiO5. It is commonly found in metamorphosed sedimentary rocks.

IMC’s sillimanite is a precision material that echoes our attention to superior quality. Sillimanite cut from natural sillimanite rocks into desired shapes and sizes is used mainly in the glass industries. Sillimanite is also the best raw material for the manufacture of high alumina refractories or 55-60% alumina bricks.

Advantages

The volume porosity of grains hardly exceeds 6% after heating (such compactness offers great advantage in all applications where problems of corrosion and abrasion can arise).

Sillimanite powder mixed with high-grade china-clay is used in the manufacture of spark plugs and other insulating materials required at high voltage.

High alumina content and high melting point.

Low impurity or contaminants (high mineralogical content).

Even sizing.
